New Website!

I'm so excited about my new website for Mama Kloth!  I started this little business in February and its taking off!  Never in a million years would I have imagined myself using cloth pads let alone making them!  But after thoughtful consideration and research I realised how bad disposables  were for my body.  As well they are an environmental nightmare.  After making some myself and trying them out I was shocked at how easy they were to use and so much more comfortable than disposables.

So that was when I decided to take my love of fabric and combine it with making reusable pads.  The best thing I ever did.  I love sewing these things!  I also love telling women about them who didn't even know they exist.  After they try them its so great to hear how much they like them.  It's so much fun choosing new prints and working on new designs.

I have big plans, BIG plans for Mama Kloth, I tell you.  If you have yet to try a Reusable Women's pad than I suggest you do.  You will be so happy that you did.  Just thinking never having to buy disposables at the grocery store ever again!  This includes incontinence pads.

Curious?  Have a look at my shop.  www.mamakloth.com  If you have any questions or comments, I would love to hear from you!

Recycling Glass Jars

I just love to be able to reuse something instead of sending it to that landfill or even to be recycled . After a shopping trip to Costco, we purchased a few peaches and mandarin oranges that came in these beautiful glass jars. I decided to keep the jars and figure out something I could use them for. Than it occurred to me one day that they would make great drinking glasses. They quickly become a family favourite.

The only problem was completely removing the sticky mess from the label. I searched on Pinterest and tried a few suggested including soaking in hot soapy water, nail polish remover , bleach and vinegar. All done seperately, I had zero success.

Until I tried Mr. Cleans Magic Eraser ( the blue ones with the Dawn soap worked the best).  I'm not going to lie it does take some elbrow grease but it worked the best! Now we have about 8 shiny jars to drink from all summer. Now to find some lids to fit and some fun paper straws.

Family Photo Shoot

I had the pleasure of working with the awesome Michelle of Michelle Cervo Photography this week.  Michelle had taken some photos for my existing business almost two years and had captured some fantastic shots of my kiddos.  Unfortunately that time my husband had to work so we missed him in our photos so it was great to have the four of us together this time.  I picked the photos to be at our favourite place to walk, Heritage Park.  There are so many beautiful spots over looking the river and the mountains.   The first shot here is a spot we found in the trails, I took these few with my Iphone.

Of course it takes a few weeks to get the pictures but I snagged this one off Michelles FB page and I love it!  You would think they actually get along in this picture ;)  My daughter just turned 13 and my son is 8.

Here is the photo Michelle took almost two years ago, its pretty neat to see how much the kids have changed.

Now here is the first professional photo of the four of us together.  Revival Arts Studio in Abbotsford , BC did this shoot.  This is my favourite one of the bunch.  My son was two in the photo and my daughter was 6.

Im looking forward to seeing all the photos and will post some of my favourites in a few weeks :)

Water Resistant Fleece

Today I attempted my first You Tube video.  This was something I really didn't want to do and always feel awkward especially filming myself.  So I got my 13 year daughter to film it with my Iphone which made it a little less clumsy.  I tried to just relax and be myself.  The ending is a little weird as I just didn't know how to sign off, but it was our 5th take so I settled on it after feeling much like a broken record.  My daughter and her friend laughed at our 3 take where I accidently put the tap on full blast and make a mess.  I really should have kept this video as a blooper, it was pretty funny.

I wanted to do the video because sometimes things need to be seen and explained not just written. As a viewer I found the shorter the better as I tend to be a fast forwarder to long drawn out videos.

This year I switched from a disposable menstrual product to a reusable one.  I had been thinking about making the switch over the years but was too chicken and over whelmed by it.  I really thought it would be a hard switch when in fact it was super easy!  I made my own pads and after tweaking them a few times they turned out great.  I later decided to sell them by opening up my second Etsy shop , Mama Kloth.

I will post again and talk about my background and how I ended up with two Etsy shops.  But for now I will just post my awkward but informative video :)

I must start this out by saying I am not a writer.  I make stuff.  So hopefully you won't expect well written eloquent posts.  But I do promise to blog about my endless amount of ongoing projects, yummy recipes and perhaps a few personal posts here and there.

I do want to thank my brother for helping me on his day off to get this blog set up.  He's an Electrician but happens to know a bunch of computer science which is very helpful to have in the family.  He recently started his own Electrical company which I want to share with y'all. If you are ever in need of electrical services in the Vancouver, BC area , hes your man.  Give him a call, I promise hes trust worthy ;)

Its a beautiful sunny day here so Im going to go out and indulge is some much needed vitamin D!  Have a great weekend!
